A Department of Dentistry at a prestigious University has a worldwide reputation of research excellence. A young scientist who is supervised by a leading mentor in this department has generated a new idea to develop a new toothpaste ingredient which puts back the lost minerals from tooth enamel, helps prevent decay and treats sensitivity. This idea is not yet protected and it is new to the industry.
Using Csikszentmihalyi’s (2014) creative thinking process model and Sternberg’s Investment Theory of Creativity
(i) critically discuss the relevant key personal resources that the young scientist will require for the development of this radical innovation during
each of the stages of the creative thinking process. (75 % weighting)
(ii) how can the young scientist protect the value of this new toothpaste during the different stages of the creative thinking process? (25% weighting)
Formative Feedback – Formative Feedback will be provided through an Assessment
Surgery to be held after the marking process is completed so as to help students improve
their performance for the assignment in Semester 2 which will also be scenario based. Date
TBA during the Semester.

Assignments must be presented in the following format:
A front page with identification of your student number; degree programme;
• Accurate and properly cited referencing, using the Harvard referencing system
What is excluded?

What is included?
▪ References cited within the essay are included e.g. (Chesbrough, 2016)

Assignment Feedback will (normally) be returned within the 20-working day turnaround
period. In addition to the final mark; individual written feedback will indicate where marks
were allocated (or lost). Generic feedback will also be available via Canvas after the 20
working days of the hand in date.
Students who fail the Module Assessment (both Semester 1 and Semester 2 combined) will
be required to resubmit another assessment during the August resit period.
