Project Overview & Guidelines:

For the final group project in HSC 101, you are to submit a minimum of five page and to present capstone project in-class using PowerPoint or Prezi with visual presentation in: A universal health care system in a country beyond the U.S. borders. Within your presentation, you are REQUIRED to perform research to identify and complete the following based on that country’s health care system. This item below must be included in your research paper and in your presentation:

Perform research to identify a country that has a universal health coverage system.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) or other relevant resource such as peer reviewed journals or credible source (primary source such as CMS or other government or international sites), what is the ranking of the country health care system in comparison to the U.S. health care system?

The total amount of expenditures/Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in comparison to the U.S. amount.  Include an explanation of what Gross Domestic Product is.  In addition, explain what does this mean in terms of money and the overall economy of the country.  Does the healthcare delivery system equate to the quality of service.

Within the universal system, how is the insurance of every citizen financed? For example, does taxes such as social security, personal, employer, cover health insurance? Please explain, your opinion whether you agree or disagree with the funding used to support universal health care coverage.

Are all citizens required to have health care coverage? How does this relay to the U.S. terms of coverage?

What is covered or provided under the universal health coverage umbrella? Provide at least three examples of health care services and treatments that are automatically covered.

Is private insurance used within the universal health coverage system? Who is responsible for providing private insurance? Is it the government, employers or citizens? Provide at least one example of what is covered via private insurance if you have determined that this is a part of the universal health coverage system.

What agency, cabinet or department etc. is responsible for overseeing the country health care system?

What is the country’s approach and view on prevention, patient education and quality and physician-patient relationships?

Can one select a physician of their choice or are there tough regulations and restrictions? What about appointments is there a long window-period before one can obtain an appointment?

Discuss the coverage of prescription drugs. Is this included in the health coverage?

Are there any restrictions and limitations?

Are there any issues you located about the system?

Finally, based on your research findings, how does the universal health coverage of the country you selected compare in general to the universal health care system in the U.S.?  Is it better, worse, more or less coverage, etc.? Include a closing statement of your findings and opinions.

Your visual presentation should not go beyond 15-20 minutes; however details are important to demonstrate your research abilities, understanding and interpretation skills.

The paper must be typed, in a MS Word document and the page length will depend on the detail needed to complete the project.

You should include a cover page and reference page.  Each member is required to participate in the presentation.
