Helen Sanderson focuses her talk on self-managed teams, and how teams can organize themselves without a formal boss. Benefits of self-managed teams include lower costs and higher production, as well as a sense of belonging to a group. Often, it is believed that self-managed teams make better decisions given the team efficacy.

Leadership is an integral component of self-managed teams, despite the notion of teams organizing themselves without a leader.
