This is an essay rather than a report. It is a good topic, but it needs to be a study for a specific person who could be you. The report would determine whether an MBA is a useful pursuit for that particular person. This has to be a real person with a real budget, real schedules and so on.
Introduction
The paper determines whether getting a Master of Business Administration (MBA) is critical to career growth. An MBA is imperative as it equips individuals with business and management skills and knowledge. They get to understand the business management aspects and functions. The number of persons obtaining an MBA has increased significantly over the year; however, it is not clear whether it leads to career growth. Thus, the aim of the report is to establish whether MBA helps individuals advance their careers or not. The topic was chosen because there are gaps in literature concerning the benefits of MBA when it comes to career growth. Hence, examining the topic will help fill the gap and enable individuals to make sound decisions on whether to get an MBA or not. The report is part of my assignments in class.
Scope
The report will cover the importance of MBA in career growth. It will examine whether getting an MBA helps individuals in the United States and other countries around the world advance their careers or not. According to study evidence, it is assumed that people with an MBA perform better in terms of management than those who do not have. Pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree is considered the basis for a great career in the corporate. As a result, MBA programs have become common in the past years. The demand for management training in the United States started in the 1980s and in Europe in the past fifteen years. MBA graduates are entering the job market at a higher rate. However, there is limited evidence on the significant effect of the MBA on potential managers’ career (Mihail & Elefterie, 2006). Hay and Hodgkinson (2006) studied the meaning of being successful in a career after obtaining a Master of Business Administration degree. The researchers interviewed alumni who had an MBA. The research findings indicated the traditional definition of success in an MBA career was connected to the external criteria, including salary and position. Individuals aged 25 to 45 years were interested in advancing their position. Other managers believed having an MBA would help them get a promotion in the future (Hay & Hodgkinson, 2006). Baruch and Peiperl (2006) claim that having a Master of Business Administration degree is considered a path to senior management positions and a” fast track” career. Students are interested in obtaining the managerial skills faster and efficiently and overtake their peers and improve their career prospects (Baruch & Peiperl, 2006). Hence, it is necessary to do further research on career development and MBA to close the research gap. However, the report will not examine other aspects of an MBA, including the impact on managers’ management style and the performance of the organization.
Methodology
The research will employ a literature review methodology to gather information. The information will be obtained from past studies that have been done to determine the impact of MBA on career growth. On top of that, surveys and interviews done involving people who have obtained an MBA and its effect on career advancement will be chosen. The sources will be reviewed to extra important information on the topic. Literature review of secondary sources has been chosen because it will be easier and cost- effective. In addition to that, it will show different perspectives on the problem and helps develop a solution. The studies will reveal the divergent views that people with MBA have on its effect on their career growth.
