After completing the assigned readings from Richard Wright and Gloria Steinem, select one of the following three options to complete:
Option 1: Unlearning and The Wisdom of the Past
Both Thoreau and Steinem warn us about relying on received wisdom from the past. What are their specific concerns? Be sure to cite specific details or examples from each text. Do you agree with their stance on this issue? Why or why not?
Option 2: Risk
Explore the role that risk plays in obtaining wisdom in the chapter assigned to read from Richard Wrights’ Black Boy and one other reading from the semester. Be sure to cite specific examples from both readings. What specific conclusion would you endorse about the importance of risk in developing wisdom in life? Support your stance with an argument that clearly labels both premises and conclusion. Go on to develop two questions you find to be fundamental to developing a philosophy of risk in your life. Explain the significance of your questions.
Option 3: Open Reading Question.
Develop your own reading question by following the instructions found in the Course Information folder.
