The ability to study the existing art and architecture of the Ancient world is becoming increasingly more difficult as a result of recent conflicts and wars in the World. Museums and important archaeological sites have been looted or damaged. Important architecture and artifacts have been destroyed, and the list goes on. This research assignment is designed to raise student awareness of the current threats taking place against key monuments and masterpieces in the world.
Students will consult the latest available news to determine the destruction of an important site using, A World Heritage: https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/ (Links to an external site.). Chose a landmark or area selected by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as having a cultural, historical, scientific or another form of significance, and is legally protected by international treaties. The sites are judged important to the collective interests of humanity.
IMPORTANT: you must choose a artwork, architecture, temple, ect. that falls between the timeline and cultures we discussed in this course. NO South America, or Asian cultures, we do not discuss these cultures in this course, therefore choose a site that we do discuss.
