Each student will write a health policy analysis paper (15-page maximum of text, less than 3,750 words double-spaced) on a public health problem. The policy paper will be assessed for organization, quality of writing, originality, and comprehensiveness.
In the paper, students are required to describe the current policy being implemented as well as its shortcomings. Two policy options must be presented. One of the options will be the student’s policy recommendation to improve the public health problem. Students must clearly state who is the audience for the paper.
The audience may be an elected official or an administrator at the State or Federal levels of government. For example, the audience might be a legislative committee, a specific legislator, or an administrator who heads a government agency. Students are expected to advocate for their policy recommendations.
For this time, students will submit one page identifying the health policy issue on which his/her paper will focus. Students must include a preliminary bibliography of at least six sources.
