In “Distance Learning,” Brian Hensen states, “More than 1600 of the nation’s 5000 two- and
four-year public and private schools offered undergraduate or graduate degree programs via
the Internet in 1999.” A decade later, all educational service providers have been forced to offer
some variation of online learning, commonly referred to as Distance Learning; a subject matter
that has been controversial in terms of its effectiveness is now suddenly the only form of a
formal education.
Based on your experience and the information provided in this article, discuss your thoughts on
the advantages or disadvantages on either traditional learning or Internet/distance learning?
What are at least two such advantages or disadvantages? What advice would you offer to
policy makers in moving forward in planning the future of learning?
