What role does war play in the Iliad – Is it presented as a good thing or a bad thing? What are the worthwhile causes for fighting a war?To what extent does the Bhagavad-gita support the impending war, and in what ways might it be a condemnation?3- Write an essay comparing and contrasting the views of war in the Iliad and the Bhagavad-gita and discuss how war is justified in the texts. Although the concepts for “Justification of War” were written down in the twenty-first century by the United States Institute of Peace, the concepts themselves are as old as warfare, being mentioned in the Bible and other sacred texts and by Homer himself. You may do outside reading (research) and use it in your essay, and you will use examples from the text to support your points. You are not writing a personal opinion essay on whether or not war is just, but rather discussing from the texts that you read what the authors express as the virtues and morality of war. You may use the principles from the “The Justification of War” as they apply to your explanation. This essay should have a clear thesis that explains what you will be comparing and contrasting. You may use the block method (Iliad – 3 reasons war is justified; Bhavagad-gita – 3 reasons war is justified); or you may use point-by-point method (Reason 1 – Iliad, Bhavagad-gita; Reason 2 — Iliad, Bhavagad-gita; Reason 3 — Iliad, Bhavagad-gita). You will use MLA format and citations, and submit the essay through Turnitin in Canvas. You will complete a chart that you will use in your discussion posts, and then you will construct your paper from the chart, discussions with your peers, the texts, and research. The length for this paper is a minimum of 2 pages not including the Works Cited page.Bhagavad-gita.
