On the one hand, globalization has played a role in promoting industrialization in the global South through increased trade and investment. On the other hand, globalization has also contributed to deindustrialization in the global North through the relocation of manufacturing jobs to lower-wage countries.

 

Other factors that play a role in deindustrialization/ industrialization include technology, productivity, competitiveness, and government policies. These factors can interact with each other in complex ways. For example, a country may have high productivity but low competitiveness, which can lead to deindustrialization. Or a country may have low productivity but high competitiveness, which can lead to industrialization.

 

In general, the most important factor for deindustrialization/ industrialization is global competitiveness. A country needs to be able to compete in the global marketplace in order to maintain its manufacturing base. Other factors, such as technology and productivity, can play a role, but they are secondary to competitiveness.
