Nursing is a dynamic profession that requires an evolving skill set and a comprehensive knowledge base. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) recognizes this and has identified nine essentials that serve as the foundation for all nursing education programs. These essentials guide the education of nurses at all levels, from undergraduate to graduate and beyond. The purpose of this paper is to discuss each of the AACN essentials and describe how I met each essential during my nursing program, incorporating evidence from previous assignments, didactic, skills lab, and clinical rotations.

Nurses must be able to critically appraise research findings, apply them to patient care, and evaluate the outcomes of their interventions.
