Biodiversity is essential for the functioning of ecosystems and the well-being of humans. We depend on healthy ecosystems for our food, water, air, and much more. Biodiversity loss threatens these vital services, as well as the many species that call this planet home.

 

Citizens can demand that their governments take action to protect biodiversity and create laws to prevent further loss of biodiversity. Governments can fund research on the topic, create protected areas, and develop restoration plans. Non-profits can raise awareness about the issue, fund research, and help to restore ecosystems. And individuals can do their part by reducing their impact on the environment, supporting organizations working to protect biodiversity, and spreading the word about the importance of biodiversity.
