INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS
BUS415 International Management and Global Institutions
With reference to a particular industry or sector of your choice, write a report that explains how the megatrends in international production identified by UNCTAD (2020) are likely to influence the international strategies of multinational corporations (MNCs) in this industry/sector going into the future.
In your report, you should:
Word count: No more than 4,000 words, excluding table of contents, abstract/executive summary (no more than 200 words), tables, figures, appendices and bibliography/list of references. Marks will be deducted for work that exceeds the word count limit (see grading scheme below).
Preferred referencing method: Please ensure that the sources of all the information and data, and the analyses of others, are properly cited in your report using the Harvard method of referencing.
Information sources: The following resources will be made available to you via the Learning Mall Online.
Several international management consultancy companies have recently produced reports on: (i) contemporary developments in GVCs, (ii) industry studies, and/or (iii) the effects of Covid-19 on international business and in particular industries and sectors. These companies include Deloitte, PwC (Pricewaterhouse Coopers), McKinsey and Co, EY (Ernst and Young) and KPMG. Use your favourite search engine to track down these reports using combinations of the following search terms: [consultancy company name], [industry], [sector], [GVC], [global value chain], [global supply chain], [technology], [the future of], [covid-19], [national policy] and so on (without the brackets, of course).
Moreover, many scholarly papers have been published on GVCs in general, and on GVCs in particular industries and sectors. Use the same search criteria as above (but excluding the name of the management consultancy company) in Google Scholar, the university’s library search engine, or your preferred scholarly search engine to locate these papers. You should also note that the World Bank, World Trade Organization, OECD, UNIDO and the World Economic Forum have also recently published work on these types of topics, so you should considering searching for their publications online as well.
Given the contemporary nature of this task, please try to ensure that you cite recently published reports and scholarly papers (for example, that have been published since 2017), especially when using these publications as evidence for current and future trends.
