How well did Germany handle the 2015-16 refugee crisis? How different has its response been to the influx of refugees from Ukraine?
The refugee crisis of 2015-16 remains one of the most significant humanitarian crises of recent times. The conflict in Syria, coupled with ongoing instability in other parts of the Middle East and Africa, led to an unprecedented wave of migration to Europe. Germany, in particular, became a destination of choice for many refugees due to its open-door policy and perceived willingness to accommodate those in need. However, the crisis also presented significant challenges for the German government, as it struggled to manage the large influx of refugees and ensure their integration into German society. In this paper, we will examine how well Germany handled the 2015-16 refugee crisis, and how different its response has been to the influx of refugees from Ukraine.
