Which firms and industries have been most affected by Covid-19 and why? In what way has the economy been affected by supply shortages, price changes of products, closures of businesses, etc., and what has your personal experience as a consumer and/or employee during the pandemic been​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍​?

With international travel all but suspended, companies in this sector have seen a massive drop in customers, leading to widespread closures and job losses as demand for their services dropped drastically.

 

Retail stores also experienced significant disruption due to the pandemic, with many forced to close temporarily or switch to an online-only model in order to continue operating. This shift was not without challenges; with physical stores closed, businesses needed to adjust their supply chains quickly and effectively in order to meet customer demand. The switch to online commerce has also caused supply shortages, with certain products becoming harder to acquire due to the pandemic.

 

The health and wellness sector has been significantly affected by the pandemic too, as individuals are increasingly avoiding doctors’ offices and hospitals in order to reduce their risk of exposure. This has had a knock-on effect on related industries such as insurance companies, which have seen fewer customers and revenues as individuals opt for alternative forms of healthcare such as telemedicine.
