Module 6 discusses the incorporation of the nurse educator competencies related to the use of various forms of technology into their teaching skill set. In addition, we will explore the benefits of utilizing the principles and core competencies of Interprofessional Education to enhance the student’s ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with the various healthcare teams they work with. Psychomotor, affective, and cognitive factors that influence technology adoption will be discussed as a foundation for the development and implementation technology-based teaching strategies. A major focus of this module is on the design, implementation, and evaluation of simulation exercises to support learning in nursing education. Increasingly, educators are using simulations to enhance learning outcomes and promote safe patient care environments. A secondary focus of this module is on the use of electronically-mediated technologies used to support and enhance teaching and learning. Specifically, the types of media will be described, as well as a systematic course of action to guide the selection and use of media and the environments in which they are used.
Explore the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) to provide online education; advantages and disadvantages.
Delineate strategies for nursing faculty to engage the online learner.
Use information technologies to support the teaching and learning process.
Integrate theory and practice using appropriate information technologies such as through the use of simulation.
Identify the challenges of media, multimedia, and technology-rich learning environments in nursing education relative to academic and healthcare environments.
Examine effective interprofessional education strategies that can be used to promote collaboration and teamwork among health professionals in the clinical practice.
