Oil is cooled by water is a counterflow heat exchanger. The oil flow rate is 2000 kg/h, entering at 107∞C and leaving at 30∞C. Its mean cp is 2.51 kJ/kg K. Water enters at 15∞C and its exit temperature is not to exceed 80∞C. The overall heat transfer coefficient is expected to be 1.5 kW/m2 K. Determine the water flow rate, the surface area required and the effectiveness of the exchanger.
