School can be a particularly difficult environment, where students are constantly navigating heteronormative expectations and norms.

I remember one incident in particular that really highlights the complexity of school culture for LGBTQ youth. I was in high school at the time and there was a girl in my grade who was openly gay. One day, she was talking to a group of us about her experiences and how difficult it was to feel like she didn't fit in. She talked about how she constantly felt like an outsider, both in terms of her sexuality and her gender expression.
